I purchased Kraftmaid cabinets because of their reputation for quality. I spent over $11,000 on cabinets for my small kitchen. Many of them arrived out of square, warped and the doors look very cheap...not at all like the sample displays. This resulted in a lot of extra work for the installers, and more money for me as they had to make alterations to even put them together. They look like they were thrown together, not built. I doubt if one of the drawers even will close correctly due to the warped front. I am heartsick over this. My beautiful, long awaited, expensive kitchen is a mess.

All the boxes were in great shape, but there was a 1/2inch chip out of one of the cabinet doors. Are they making these in the US?

After saving for this kitchen for ten years, I am truly disappointed.

Would never purchase this brand again.

Location: Livonia, Michigan

Wonderful experience- Just an FYI it's impossible to come to a conclusion that all doors and drawers work perfectly if you are still in the process of installing your cabinetry. As a cabinet maker and installer with 20+ years of experience I know for a fact that it is after you are finished installing your cabinets that you find all discrepancies especially the out of square cabinets.

I think either you don't know what to look for in a quality cabinet or you are employed by the manufacturer.

I have seen these complaints first hand and had to deal with them on numerous occasions, costing me both time and money every time. Kraftmaid =no quality control!

We're in the process of installing our Kraftmaid cabinets and they are great. All of them have been in perfect condition out of the box and their customer service was wonderful when Lowe's messed up our order date.

Kraftmaid expedited our order and had it delivered to us in 2 weeks.

Drawers and doors close wonderfully. I would definitely reccommend them.

We just had the same experience with Kraftmaid. I wish that I had seen this post before buying them.

The Krapmaid I received were built in a hurry - no one checked their work and do not care what it looks like. The mounting strips on the back were not flush with the ends making it impossible to keep the fronts flush. Waiting for more surprises when installation is complete.

Not surprised: Umm.... what planet are you living on?

Kraftmaid cabinets are manufactured in Middlefield, Ohio. A lot of the raw material comes from China, sure, but the assembly happens in Ohio.

I went to several "high end" stores, in particular "Lang's Kitchen and Charles Weiler". Both places were supposed to call me, but stubbed me instead Not worth the trouble for a small job.

I hope they both crash and burn in this economy. Snobbery is out of style.

Don't they know this! LOSERS!

Starmark makes a great cabinet with some doors starting at Kraftmaid pricepoints.

Starmark has the lowesy return rate in the industry. (less than .05%) I recently sold a $25000.00 order and the consumer was VERY picky.

He didn't return anything!

They really do a great job, and give 3/4" plywood sides at no cost thru March of 2011. jkrider@***.com

Disappointed with my Kraftmaid: Those fumes you are referring to more than likely are the solvents in the lacquers used to repair the finish. Just wanted to point out a few of the ingredients that make up these aerosol products.Toluene, acetone, ethylbenzene and a list of other solvents make up a product that is both flammable and hazardous to you and your families health. The label clearly states all these issues and I am surprised that nobody showed you all the warnings associated with inhaling this product especially since this is going to be an annual ritual it seems.

My Lenox bisque painted maple Kraftmaid cabinets are a HUGE disappointment! In a previous house we had stained maple cabinets which were great but the paint on our current cabinets ($12,000) chips CONSTANTLY!

We've had Kraftmaid in 3 times in the past 3 years to retouch them.

A huge inconvenience and a terrible smell for a complete day (cannot be healthy to inhale these terrible fumes!) I have a lifetime warranty though and as long as they make me keep these cabinets they will be at my home regularly touching them up! Never buy painted cabinets from Kraftmaid!!

Yet again the Kraftmaid issues are blamed on the installers. Couldn't possibly come from manufactured parts that were cut out of square like the three wall cabinets that I received with side panels cut 1/8" out of square.

So how do we explain the chipped door that was found inside a box that showed no visible damage on the exterior.

Installation probably done by aspiring magician? Great act for America's got talent or Kraftmaid should clean up it's quality control act?

Just had $10,000 worth of cabinets installed in my kitchen. They look beautiful!

Doors and cabinets function great, everything is great. Perhaps the problems referenced above have to do with installer or condition of floors and walls before installation.

I'm a contractor and I really never found the quality in these cabinets.Customer service is awful at times. I gave up and started using American Woodmark. Happy with their quality and service.

I ordered KraftMaid cabinets for my new kitchen thru Home Depot. During the installation process we found we had 1 bad upper cabinet box and door and one base cabinet door was bad.

We also didn't receive all of our kick board.... the other problem was that the filler piece and the valance seemed to be a different color than the cabinets, even when allowing for a natural color variance.

The replaced/sent everything within 10 days and so far I am very pleased. Their customer service has been very good as has that at our local Home Depot.

If you order from an individual dealer this would not be a problem. I have never had a problem with KraftMaid and have been designing and sell for 16 years.

The money you save buying from them always ends up costing you what you'd spent by using a dealer and not a home store. Look for dealers where one person is over seeing the job from start to finish.

Subbing out installers from home stores...bad idea too! By the way they are NOT made in China!

Kraftmaid cabinets are manufactured in China and have been for the last 10 yrs.

I suppose some of their cabinets may be made there, not sure, but I just visited two plants in September 2015 in Orwell and Middlefield Ohio and I assure you it is not China. I also from watching the manufacturing process of the doors, and then watching the final assembly of entire kitchens be completed and boxed and placed right on a truck.

It sure as heck looked like there was a intense amount of quality going on in this plant. I know I couldnt see everything but I was impressed.

Good luck trying to send them back. The usual response starts with "This is a special invoice not a stock item that we can just put back on a shelf, it was made specifically for your order and we'll send someone out to correct all these problems right away".

It seems that Home Depot does listen when it gets to a point , where as Kraftmaid doesn't want to hear it and will try and get you to keep it because they are the ones having to eat the cost the most. Maybe this is also the reason this set was installed, unsuspecting contractor or home owner was most likely assured that all problems would be taken care of by Rep and that if you reordered from someone else it would take another 4-6 weeks for delivery. Now looking back customer is regretting not sending order back and waiting the extra time to get cabinets somewhere else. Nothing like turning backwards in the middle of an extensive project and deflating all the enthusiasm out of the dream kitchen that you have been saving and planning on for years.

Not to mention the installers who have to put the job on hold and come back at a later date. I guess finding another installation to do is just around the corner and doesn't take any planning at all.

Just checked this site for American Woodmark complaints and couldn't find a single one. What I did find was numerous complaints about Kraftmaid, guess they really are Krapmaid after all. Maybe it was HKCC that has the American Woodmark and didn't realize it???

Guest

Your cabinet description does not even sound like KraftMaid cabinets! I love my kitchen, and the doors and drawer boxes are beautiful.

You need to make sure you have KraftMaid cabinets . . .

not American Woodmark or others. :grin
